Herbst Front Entry Addition

The owners of this "contemporary" 1984 home with a small dark entry required a larger open foyer with an abundance of natural light to greet friends and family. An 8' x 15' two-story addition was created by extending the second floor roof beyond the new structure, allowing for a large overhang on the southern exposure of the home. The front elevation includes a pair of fiberglass Thermatru entry doors and large Andersen casement windows with clerestory fixed Andersen windows as well as Velux skylights and a trapezoid window in the upper area of the addition. New marble floor tile was installed in the foyer to compliment the remainder of the marble tile on the first floor. A six foot wide opening was created in the former exterior wall of the Dining room to the new foyer and can accommodate additional guests. What was once the exterior wall above the old entry is now an open oak railing overlooking a grand entrance.
